• Summer Camp Counselors
  • What type of ministry opportunity is it?

We are inviting you to be involved with our English Kids Camps or English Youth Camps at Word of Life Lake Koeris, Germany. English-speaking camps have proven to be a great way of reaching young Germans with the Gospel. You will encounter opportunities for intensive counseling and discipleship, be able to share your faith through personal evangelism and teach kids and teens the English language. Your involvement in our small, personal camps (up to 60 campers per camp) will provide you with the opportunity to meet a wide spectrum of German young people from both churched and unchurched backgrounds. In addition, you will get to know other English native speakers and English-speaking German staff. You do not need to speak any German – in fact: our foreign staff is what makes our English-Camps ENGLISH and the campers will love you because of it.

  • Who are we looking for?

You know Jesus as your personal savior and love God’s Word? You are willing to invest into the lives of kids and teenagers? Then, we are looking for you! These are the areas you can apply for:

    • Counselor (only available for Youth Camps, not Kids Camps):
You have to be between 18-30 years old and your job is to counsel up to 6 campers. Depending on your skills you could also be asked to teach a brief devo, a workshop (sports, music, arts and crafts, English, etc.) or to be involved in our music team.

    • English Police (only available for Kids Camps, not Youth Camps):
You will encourage the kids to speak as much English as possible. You will keep track of the points for their team, check their verses, engage them in conversations in English and cheer for them. You will also instruct workshops in the afternoons (sports, music, baking, arts and crafts, English, etc.). You should be at least 16 years old and enjoy patiently teaching English to kids.

    • Speaker (available for Kids and Youth Camps):
Please contact us if you are interested in teaching at our camps. We will get in contact with you.

    • Kitchen, Housekeeping, Maintenance (available for all camps at the WOL property):
You will help our experienced instructors in their areas. You will also help with workshops for the campers and other areas that involve contact with the campers. You should be at least 16 years old.

    • Photo- or Videographer (available for Kids and Youth Camps):
If you would like to apply as a Photographer or Videographer, you would have to be able to work independently and without an instructor. It is required that you have experience in this area. Please contact us if you are interested.
  • Where will the English Camps be held?

The English Youth Camps will be run on the “Lake Koeris Campus” of Word of Life Germany about 30 miles south-east of the German capital, Berlin. The English Kids Camps will take place partly on our own property and partly on a rented camp ground owned by a secular organization just a couple miles from the WOL location. Both locations are scenic lakefront properties.

The airport you would need to fly in and out of is called Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER).

  • When will the English Camps be held and by what time would I have to arrive and leave?

PREP WEEK 1: July 07 -11, 2025 - only available to and mandatory for those who need 8 weeks of ministry credit.

PREP WEEK 2: July14 – 18, 2025- if you can serve in at least three camps starting with Youth Camp 1, we would like you to consider taking part in PREP WEEK 2 also, if you can afford it timewise. If not, we would prefer you serving three camps rather than PREP WEEK 2 plus two camps.

    English Kids Camps:

    Kids Camp A: July 27 – August 02, 2025

    Kids Camp B: August 03 – 09, 2025

    Kids Camp C: August 10 – 16, 2025

    Kids Camp D: August 24 – 30, 2025

    English Youth Camps:

    Youth Camp 1: July 20 – 26, 2025

    Youth Camp 2: August 10 – 16, 2025

    Youth Camp 3: August 17 – 23, 2025

Recharge (Young Adults) -Note: This is not an English Camp thus you can't serve as a counselor:

    Recharge: August 03 – 09, 2025

    WRAP-UP WEEK: September 01 - 05, 2025

You can choose between the categories of Kids or Youth Camp and request to be involved as many camps as you choose. A combination of Kids and Youth Camps, as well as Recharge is conceivable.

IMPORTANT: For organizational reasons, the designated arrival day is ALWAYS a Saturday (at the beginning of the camp season it can also be on Friday) and the designated departure day is ALWAYS a Saturday (at the end of the camp season it can also be on Sunday or Monday). The Saturday of your arrival is reserved for overcoming your jetlag, while Sunday morning is reserved for a Campus Worship Service and Staff Orientation. The campers will arrive on Sunday afternoons. DO NOT BOOK ANY FLIGHT UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED BY US AND WE EXPLICITLY HAVE CONFIRMED YOUR ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE DATES!

  • How can I get involved?

You can get involved by doing the following:

    1. Read this ministry job description and understand what it basically entails.
    2. Understand and count the part of the cost of this outreach that you would be responsible for:

At your own expense - but not until you are officially accepted - we would expect you to:

    • purchase a round-trip flight ticket
    • purchase WOL Short Term Insurance at a rate of approx. $4.57 per day if you are American (in the event that your trip were to exceed 30 days, a much cheaper rate would apply). If you come from a country other than the U.S.A. you will have to provide us with proof of any travel health insurance before you enter Germany. Upon your acceptance, we will e-mail you a link with instructions on how to sign up.
    • complete the background check application and consent form: Word of Life International has made the safety of our staff, participants and the children we minister to a hiph priority. Because of this, we are implementing a policy for all short term missionary participants representing Word of Life Fellowship. Every American citizen serving in one of our programs will need to complete a background check application and consent form. Upon your acceptance, simply go to this link, http://www.wol.org/backgroundcheck complete the Background Check Application, and then pay the processing cost in the amount of $ 10 with a credit card at the time of completion.
    • bring as much spending money for personal purchases and sight-seeing as you think you will need. The only opportunity for exchanging money will be at Berlin Airports upon your arrival - the rates are not always reasonable there.

We, in turn, will take care of the following expenses while you are serving at camp:

free transportation to and from the Berlin airports / Central Bus Station (ZOB)

free room (bed sheets will be provided) and board

      free use of camp activities

free use of the laundry facilities

free sightseeing trip to Berlin or Potsdam (in case you stay longer than for just one camp)

    1. Download and carefully read the following documents BEFORE you fill out the online application form: WOL Statement of Faith, WOL Germany Child Protection Policy
    2. Complete the online application form as soon as possible.
    3. Download the reference form (editable PDF-format) and email one of them to a friend and another to a church leader who knows you well. Ask them to complete it and email the digital form to the email address given at the bottom of the form.
    4. As soon as we have received all application documents and have processed your application, we will contact you by email either with queries on our part, a negative reply with explanation, or a statement of acceptance, stating the exact arrival and departure dates of your ministry invitation (or a time window, if you are willing to stay 3 weeks or longer). After that you can go ahead and book your flight (or any other transportation for that matter) and email us your itinerary.
    5. Eventually, once you are accepted, you will have to apply for a passport, if you don’t have a valid one. Americans and Brazilians will not need a special visa if you enter Germany/Europe as a tourist for less than 90 days. If you are WOLBI Hungary student make sure that your visa is still good for the time you plan to serve in Germany.
  • Can I earn ministry credits to satisfy the summer ministry requirements of my Christian College?

We gladly fill out the necessary paperwork (Ministry Contract & Evaluation Form). The maxiumum length of a summer internship for credit is 9 weeks and the dates are set by PREP WEEK A until one Wrap-up week after camps.
